Montella admits Ljajic situation unclear

Vincenzo Montella has admitted Adem Ljajic s future at Fiorentina remains unclear after he was omitted from the opening league fixture.

The 21-year-old has been linked with moves away from the Serie A side, with Milan and Liverpool both reported to be interested in signing the striker.

Ljajic arrived in Italy from Partizan in 2010 and has made 78 league appearances, scoring 15 goals.

He featured in the club s UEFA Europa League play-off with Grasshoppers, but was not involved in their opening league clash with Catania due to uncertainty over his Fiorentina future.

I did not call up Ljajic because the situation is not clear, he said. The club has never imposed anything on the player.

Without the Serbia international, Montella s side started the new Serie A …

Ghana without Asamoah for Africa Cup of Nations

Juventus attacker Kwadwo Asamoah will not join up with Ghana for the Africa Cup of Nations, with coach Avram Grant excluding him from his provisional 26-man squad on Monday.

Asamoah was reported to have made himself unavailable last month following his comeback from a knee injury and his absence was confirmed by Grant.

Leicester City s Jeffrey Schlupp is also missing from the squad, while Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari thought to have been asked to be considered were also not included.

Boateng and Muntari were also omitted in 2015 after being sent home from the 2014 World Cup and suspended over alleged indiscipline.

Star names Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew did make the cut and are joined by a trio of uncapped youngsters.

FIFA World Cup Play-Off Preview: Jordan v Uruguay

Jordan host Uruguay in the opening leg of their Intercontinental Play-off looking to reach the FIFA World Cup Finals for the first time.

The Middle-Eastern state are on the brink of making history but head into Wednesday s encounter as underdogs against a team that reached the semi-finals of the 2010 tournament.

Hossam Hassan s men won a penalty shoot-out in September s Asian Football Confederation (AFC) play-off with Uzbekistan after finishing third in the fourth round of AFC qualifying.

Uruguay struggled for much of their qualifying campaign, but Hassan will know that the South Americans represent a step up from the calibre of opposition his side are used to facing.

Jordan will need to improve defensively if they are to halt a talented Uruguay attack, having co…

Ventura: Balotelli´s latest signs not positive

Italy coach Giampiero Ventura is not ruling out a recall for Mario Balotelli but says the latest signs from the temperamental forward have not been positive.

Balotelli has largely impressed this year at Nice, scoring nine goals in 14 Ligue 1 appearances, but picked up his third red card of the season when he was sent off at Lorient last weekend.

The 26-year-old has not featured for the Azzurri since the 2014 World Cup and his latest indiscipline has not boosted his hopes of a return to the international fray.

I speak with everyone, you can t expect to be treated with respect if you don t offer it yourself. I ve made a commitment and I ll speak with Balotelli, Ventura said at a media conference.

We haven t been able to meet yet, we ve made a lot of calls…

Chelsea 1 Vidi 0: Morata ends drought to earn Group L win

Alvaro Morata ended his goal drought to earn Chelsea a 1-0 home win against Vidi in the Europa League.

The striker without a goal since the middle of August  missed a great early chance but struck in the second half to put the Blues in a dominant position at the top of Group L.

Willian s flick-on gave Morata the chance and the Spain striker s instinctive finish flashed past goalkeeper Tomas Tujvel at Stamford Bridge.

Loic Nego had a series of chances for the Hungarian side, but Chelsea held firm to follow up a matchday one 1-0 win over PAOK with another narrow Europa League victory.

Morata had seven shots without hitting the target against PAOK and the striker missed another superb chance in the 16th minute.

Ligue 1 Preview: Monaco bid to salvage pride, PSG eye fifth straight win

Monaco must beat Sochaux on Saturday to keep the Ligue 1 title race competitive, even if coach Claudio Ranieri has already conceded defeat.

Ranieri reacted to Monaco s 2-0 defeat at Saint-Etienne last Saturday – the side s first reverse of 2014 – by stating that defending champions Paris Saint-Germain were always going to regain the title this season.

PSG then beat Marseille 24 hours later to go eight points clear with 11 games remaining.

While Ranieri has given up on overhauling Laurent Blanc s men, the Italian will be keen to finish the campaign strongly and will be confident of returning to winning ways against a Sochaux side that are second bottom.

A five-game unbeaten run at home against Sochaux will also give Monaco plenty of confidence heading into the…

Liverpool eye move for Sirigu

Liverpool could be set to make a summer move for Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu, .

The proposed bid casts further doubt over the future of current Reds’ number one Simon Mignolet, who has struggled to convince all since arriving at Anfield in the summer of 2013.

The former Sunderland man only penned a new contract with Jurgen Klopp’s side in January, but his struggle to hold down a regular run of good form has put his place in the German’s first team under threat.

Sirigu had been PSG’s number one for the past four seasons but this season lost his place to summer arrival Kevin Trapp,

The Italy international has made just three appearances in all competitions this season and is ready to listen to offers from other clubs.

Levy warns Tottenham will do what is right for club amid Kane speculation

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy did nothing to temper speculation about Harry Kane s future, detailing Spurs difficult financial position while insisting they remain focused on winning.

Kane has been linked with a move away from Tottenham amid reported interest from Premier League champions Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Levy spoke to Tottenham s official website after appointing former Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici as managing director, warning the London outfit will do what is right for the club.

I am never going to talk about any specific player in public, Levy said as Tottenham remain without a full-time head coach following Jose Mourinho s sacking in April.

All I will say is his frustrations in…
